Munich

Welcome to the heart of Bavaria

The Hotel Carmen is an ideal starting point for exploring the Bavarian metropolis. It is just a short walk from the beautiful Westpark. All of the city’s other major sights are also within easy reach.

Westpark

The 60-hectare, two-part park was created in 1983 for the International Horticultural Exhibition and still invites visitors to take a stroll and relax today. There are large meadows, playgrounds, sports facilities, beer gardens and, in the western part of the park, the East Asia ensemble with the Chinese and Japanese gardens, the Nepalese pagoda and the Thai sala, as well as an open-air theatre for cinema and cultural events.

You can reach the ball fountain at the south-east entrance to the Westpark on foot in about 10 minutes. You decide how far you want to walk.

Marienplatz and city centre

Just 5 stops on the U6 underground and you are in the heart of our city.

Stroll around the Viktualienmarkt or through the pedestrianised zone with its shops. Visit the Frauenkirche or the Residenz. The Hofbräuhaus is also not far away.

Don’t miss the carillon with the Schäffler dance at the New Town Hall on Marienplatz: daily at 11am and 12:00 pm, in summer also at 05:00 pm.

Kunstareal Munich

The Kunstareal München is located between Königsplatz and Theresienstraße in Munich’s Maxvorstadt district and can be reached by underground line U2. It comprises a large number of museums, exhibition spaces and galleries. For example, the Lenbachhaus, the Glyptothek, the Antikensammlung, the Museum Brandhorst and the Pinakotheken are located here.

Deutsches Museum

The Deutsches Museum is one of the largest technology museums in the world and is located on an island in the River Isar. There is plenty for the whole family to discover and try out. 20 permanent exhibitions on topics such as chemistry, physics, music, aviation, agriculture, health, optics, acoustics etc. take you into the world of science and technology. One day is almost not enough to experience everything. You have a direct connection with the 132 bus.

Olympic Park

Built for the 1972 Olympic Games, the Olympic Park with its unique architecture of sports facilities is still a centre of attraction today. Sports events, concerts and festivals take place here.

First take the U6 underground and then the U3 to the Olympic Centre. The BMW Welt is also located here.

New since September 2024 is the SAP Garden, a multi-purpose hall in which the home games of FCB Basketball and the ice hockey club EHC Red Bull München are held.

Allianz Arena

The Allianz Arena in the very north of Munich is the home of FC Bayern Munich and a place of pilgrimage for football fans from all over the world. It seats more than 70,000 spectators for football matches. On non-match days, it is worth taking a tour of the stadium or visiting the FC Bayern Museum. The Allianz Arena can be reached directly by underground line U6 to Fröttmanning station.

River Isar

The Flaucher facilities on the Isar can be reached in 10 minutes by bus 54 to the Schäftlarnstr./ Gasteig HP8 stop or in 15 minutes by bike. With river channels, gravel banks and driftwood, the Isar at Flaucher lives up to its character as a whitewater river.

In summer, the area invites you to relax and barbecue. The wooded Flaucher peninsula with its playground and beer garden is particularly popular.

Theresienwiese

The Theresienwiese is a mostly open area of around 42 hectares, not far from the old town and in the centre of Munich’s Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt district. The statue of Bavaria in front of the Ruhmeshalle is to the west and the neo-Gothic church of St Paul is to the north of the Theresienwiese. Incidentally, most of the Theresienwiese is not as green as a real meadow.

The largest folk festival in the world takes place here: the Oktoberfest or Wiesn, as Munich locals call it. There are also other events here: for example the Spring Festival – the little sister of the Oktoberfest – or the Tollwood Festival during Advent.

You can walk to the Oktoberfest from the hotel in about 25 minutes. Or you can take the U6 underground line 3 stops to Goetheplatz and walk only about 7 minutes from there.
